A POEM A DAY - BERRY RIPE

Image
Even in the midst of winter nature brings colour and sustenance. These berries glowed in the sunlight, a beacon for hungry birds at the marshes near Pego.  © 2020 Jacqueline Knight Cotterill.  All rights reserved.

A POEM A DAY - BOW OF THORN

Image
A beautiful November day in the Vall de Ebo. The blue of the sky was a stark contrast with the bare rock and the white stones of the dry river bed. The warm breeze rippled through the poplar trees filling the air with fluttering leaves.  © 2019 Jacqueline Knight Cotterill.  All rights reserved.

A POEM A DAY - FRUIT OF THE GODS

Image
The countryside is bursting with Autumn fruit, the end of the blackberries, the cascading berries of ivy, ripening droplets of red which I normally see nearing Christmas. The swallows have left but the hedges flush with flocks of sparrows and starlings are arriving.  © 2019 Jacqueline Knight Cotterill.  All rights reserved.

A POEM A DAY - GARLANDS

Image
It is far too early to be thinking of Christmas but these bright berries reminded me of lights on the tree, winding round the branches. The campo is changing a little more each day, leaves starting to wither, colours turning, berries ripening, swifts flying ready to leave for Africa.  © 2019 Jacqueline Knight Cotterill.  All rights reserved.

A POEM A DAY - SHADES OF BERRY

Image
On the last day of July the woods had an autumnal feel this morning. It was unusually cloudy and the drying grass and fading flowers added to the mood of changing seasons. After nearly 30 years away I can not remember when blackberries ripen in England but seeing them glossing from red to black reminded me of autumn in Warwickshire.   © 2019 Jacqueline Knight Cotterill.  All rights reserved.
