A POEM A DAY - COOL WATER

Image
This little spring is known as the 'Font de Pascualet' and is just off the road winding up to the Penya Blanca near Benichembla. The water trickles out from a crack in the rock to gather in a small stone pool, still decorated with verdant green despite the July heat.

A POEM A DAY - BLESSED RAIN

Image
If you raise your eyes from street level you can spot the rusting faces adorning drain pipes on old houses in the village. No one I have asked has an explanation for them, other than as decoration but in this land blighted by drought and flooding rain, I like to think she is offering up a prayer for gentle rain. Not rain that washes away roads and strips the hills of topsoil, flooding the plains and coastal towns but rain to nurture the earth, fill the underground rivers, to gush out of the ground in natural springs.  © 2019 Jacqueline Knight Cotterill.  All rights reserved.

A POEM A DAY - 'LA FONT DE LA FOIA'

Image
This mountain spring  surrounded by trees runs all year on the hillside overlooking the village and has been used for generations for drinking water . In summer the flow slows to a trickle until autumn rains filter through.  People come from miles away to fill water bottles here, the water is reputed to be good for the health, although warnings are always given that it is not tested. It is a tranquil spot with beautiful views over the valley and village in the distance.  © 2019 Jacqueline Knight Cotterill.  All rights reserved.
