A POEM A DAY - NESTLED

Image
The passing storm Gloria lifted and deposited lorry loads of stones and sand from the Marina Alta beaches, smashing them into sea front buildings and leaving trails sneaking inland. The clean up from the storm is now starting, to rebuild the promenades and businesses and import sand to the beaches of these loved resort towns before the tourist season gets underway at Easter.  This image is from the sandstone rocks at Xabia where blocks were carved out for building leaving a strange, eroded shore. This smoothed pebble stood out against the mustard sandstone.  © 2020 Jacqueline Knight Cotterill.  All rights reserved.

A POEM A DAY - ART IN NATURE

Image
One for the pleasures in doing my 'A POEM A DAY' series is the effect it is having on my observation when out for a walk. I am now much more aware of my surroundings, take more notice of small details, spotting insects, unusual flora and changes in the ground I walk on. This stone was in my path, it is small, the size of a small match box, but the details on it jumped out at me. When I had a good look at it, cleaned of mud, the markings in the stone looked like prehistoric cave art. As well as this spiral and bird, I could see another bird head, a face and other rune like markings.  © 2019 Jacqueline Knight Cotterill.  All rights reserved.

A POEM A DAY - MOON MARBLE

Image
This large lump of stone sitting by the path must have fallen from the dry stone wall or been left in its making. Normally lost in the grass the sun striking it transformed the dull rock into a shining, white orb that looked like it had fallen from the moon.  © 2019 Jacqueline Knight Cotterill.  All rights reserved.
