A POEM A DAY - FISHING

Image
As dusk fell over the sea the fisherman waded into the waves, throwing their nets by hand over the water. I didn't see the catch, leaving the beach before darkness.

A POEM A DAY - BEACH SUNSET

Image
A wonderful evening with all our family together at the beach. Once six, we are now twelve.  It felt very safe, everyone was carefully distanced, walkers apart, fisherman in the sea. Families enjoying the cooling evening, swimming, eating picnic cenas, children splashing in the waves. We are fortunate to live near to both mountains and sea, able to enjoy the refreshing beauty of nature.

A POEM A DAY - TWILIGHT

Image
I am fortunate to have a wonderful view from my third floor roof terrace, looking out over the village, with the hills framing the valley. The sun drops over this horizon and we can have beautiful sunsets, with the colour of the sky changing rapidly from golds to shades of pink and purple to the deepest, night blue. At this time of night the sky is alive with swallows and bats chasing insects at dusk. Whilst the birds swoop, the bats flitter, their flight passing the field of vision so quickly they are impossible to focus on. The feeding frenzy ends as suddenly as it begins, as night falls and they leave the sky to roost for the night.

A POEM A DAY - TREE CREATURE

Image
We watched the sun go down over distant Barcelona from the hills above Sant Feliu where you can take a green path walking through trees to the city. It was calming to be above the cars, motorways, airport, cities full of apartments, thousands of people living their lives. I love this tree with its spiky twig figure standing in the middle, pointing the way.  © 2020 Jacqueline Knight Cotterill.  All rights reserved.

A POEM A DAY - STORM ANGEL

Image
I have had to spend more time than I would like resting, grateful for my third floor view over the valley, the hills and the changing skies. These spectacular clouds at dusk lasted minutes, before the light disappeared and tinges of pink and gold lightened the night sky.   © 2019 Jacqueline Knight Cotterill.  All rights reserved

A POEM A DAY - THE MIGRANT RETURNS

Image
I have lived in Spain for nearly 30 years but still feel the pull between my Spanish home and the North I left behind. Like migrating birds I live between two worlds and am grateful I was given the opportunity to improve my health by being given the chance to live and raise my family in Spain.  I am devastated that this right and freedom is being removed by Brexit, denying future generations the chance to experience the welcome and new life I have enjoyed here.  © 2019 Jacqueline Knight Cotterill.  All rights reserved.
